Navigation tree

The BACnet configuration is organized as a tree-structure.

Some items in the tree have menu-items. These appear when selecting and then right-clicking the item.

At the top level we have the BACnet device. There can only be one active device (the device with the green triangle in front). The other inactive devices can be used as templates containing preconfigured objects for different purposes.

Every top-level device has a gateway container and a device object. Additional BACnet objects can be added to the device. The BACnet objects are distinguished by coloured icons where objects of the same type have the same colour.

Note:

If the device has more than 40 objects, then these will not be painted into the tree, because of performance reasons. It is advised to use the objects-grid of the device instead. The objects can however be forced into the tree, by right-clicking the device and selecting Force to load the objects into the tree

BACnet objects have properties. Some are required, shown by a dark-blue icon, others are optional, shown by a light-blue icon and then there are those that are proprietary, shown by a light-yellow icon.

Gateways, also known as virtual gateways, can be added to the gateway container. If working with many sensors and actuators, it can be better to group the BACnet objects behind virtual gateways.

Gateways example: A simple example is if managing hundreds of 1-Wire temperature sensors in a big building, those can be grouped behind 10 virtual gateways, one for each storey. In the same installation there might be 10 energy meters on Modbus. Those could be grouped behind a single common virtual gateway.
